Projections

A retirement projection may be of value if any of the following situations feel familiar to you.

I want to feel confident that I understand how the settlement I agree to today will impact me when I’m ready to retire.

I’m in my 50s, facing divorce, and wondering if I’ll have enough to retire — or if my entire vision for retirement needs to change.

I’m not sure if I’ll need to work longer to rebuild my retirement savings — or if retirement is still possible at the age I planned.

I’m torn about keeping the house because I’m emotionally attached to it — but I’m scared staying in the home could jeopardize my long-term financial security.

I want to make smart financial decisions now so I don’t end up regretting my choices 10 or 20 years down the road.

I’ve spent so many years focused on raising my family and supporting my spouse that my own retirement planning fell to the back burner — and now I need a clear picture of how divorce will impact my future.

This engagement offers insight into how divorce settlement may impact your ability to achieve your retirement goals.

What is a retirement projection?

A retirement projection is a personalized financial model that helps you understand how your current and future assets, savings, and income could support you in retirement. In the context of divorce — especially Collaborative Divorce or mediation — this projection can begin to provide clarity about how the financial decisions you make during your divorce settlement could impact your ability to retire comfortably.

What variables go into a retirement projection?

A retirement projection factors in the following variables:

  1. Property received in the settlement

  2. Amount and duration of support

  3. Annual savings rate

  4. Annual spending (categorized as Needs, Wants, and Wishes)

  5. Large one-off expenses, such as buying a car or house

  6. Age at retirement

  7. Variations in rates of investment returns

  8. Social Security income

  9. Longevity

What does this service entail?

This service is designed to give you insight into your financial future. First, we will collect key financial information, including details about your proposed settlement, your income, your savings rate, and other assets. From there, we will create a customized retirement projection — essentially, a financial model that shows how your resources could support you throughout retirement.

Once the projection is complete, we’ll meet for a two-hour Zoom session to review the results together. During this meeting, we will walk you through the numbers, look at “what if” scenarios, and answer any questions you may have. My goal is to help you understand your options, assess the trade-offs of different financial settlement scenarios, and feel empowered to make informed choices as you move forward.

How much does this service cost?

The service is offered for a flat fee of $800. This includes the full creation of your personalized retirement projection, plus a two-hour meeting to review the results and answer your questions. After our meeting, you’ll receive a copy of your retirement report to keep for your records.

If you’d like additional time for further analysis, updates, or follow-up discussions, that time is billed at $325 per hour.
